Liquid Cold

I am currently working on a story I'm writing called "Liquid Cold" so my renders may seem a little different than usual. Here is the basis of the story.

Liquid Cold (for lack of a better title but I thought it was catchy) is about a character named Griz. He is part of 2 man team that goes by PolarBear Inc. Griz and his partner Ice are assigned a sniper mission to take out a Scientist in Iraq. They stumble across a lab that no one wanted found and should have been killed in the explosion. When they come to, they find 30 years have passed and a lot has changed without them. Old soldiers in a very new Army with a new enemy.

I don't want to give too much away.

I'm currently working with Bryce to create some desert scenes since Vue won't ship to Iraq. I ordered a copy and sent it home. Going on R&R in a few weeks and will bring it back with me. I have the characters created and 20 pages of story, so now I just have to catch up with the renders.

I hope you follow it, and enjoy it.

JESSE JAMES and OCC rant

Today I was talking to my friend BDI, we were looking at some other people's Poser pieces and I got to thinking. The best way for me to explain Digital Art is like West Coast Choppers and Orange County Choppers. Jesse James makes most of his own stuff and puts it together in a beautiful composition. Mikey buys most of his pieces, has someone else paint it and the end result is also a beautiful composition. So who is better? If you've ever watched American Choppers Mikey, although he buys most of his parts, doesn't just easily put everything together. I would compare him to a Poser artist. Jesse James is the 3DS Max Artist.

So when I look at someone's Digital Art I look for the Jesse James of it. How much of the piece was bought and thrown together like OCC, or how much was built or bought and personalized like WCC.

I own a lot of content made by other people, but the first thing I do is strip down the UV's and personalize, some items are just so generic that it's pointless to make the models myself and some items can be Zbrushed to add more detail. I use my own skins on my models and personalize my characters with tattoos. I'm trying to be more West Coast as I gradually learn more about this 3DS Max, Maya and XSI that sit in my footlocker.

Cleaning House

I did some clean up of my Gallery. I found that some of my "Artistic Nude" pieces had no artistic value. The ones that remain I felt had a sexiness that didn't over-expose nudity to accomplish it or as in the case of Cowgirl Up 2 had a pose that I felt was original and used attention to detail in the Gravity factor. I guess I more or less wanted this to be a gallery I could send a link to my Mother, or Goddess forbid something happen to me here in Iraq, I wouldn't be remembered for certain items in my gallery.

I am new to digital media. I just started using Poser and Photoshop in February of this year. I have no previous experience with art other than paints and pencils. Slowly I am learning the capabilities of the software. I am terrible at reading manuals and tutorials and therefore only learning through trial and error. Art pieces that I once was proud of I am learning required little talent. I have so many ideas in my head that I sometimes rush too quickly to achieve the end result. Granted even though I try to add a personal touch by using my own textures in my pieces, my style is so erratic that I've come to realize that in no way does it define me.

There are many different views about Poser. I have seen digital works created by using 3DS Max and other programs and although they are good, I feel some wasted time by not using Poser to achieve the same result in less time. Poser, in my opinion, is not easy nor is it a cheat. Granted some pieces I spend more time in waiting for the render than I do creating the composition and in that I feel I am only cheating myself. I need to remind myself of the basics, like using colors to draw the eye to a certain place and to make the piece flow.

Well I rambled enough but I felt if I made my thoughts public I would hold myself to it.
